Desert as Metaphor

close up of Kristie Kercheval with glasses on, hair is a bit messy, subtle smile

I grew up in a trailer park in Indio, California, and I make art out of a lifetime of things that needed healing. But my palette is rooted in the high desert — Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, the colors that show up in the hour before dark. The desert also runs through my work as metaphor: spiritual thirst, the testing of faith, and a reaching toward the divine. I paint both abstract and figurative work in oil and cold wax medium.

Encaustic /Collage

I love to experiment with colors and textures.
